Pictures from Rise Networks National Youth Forum

Another edition of National Interactive Youth Forum organized by RISE, a youth expression and advocacy firm was held last weekend (20th June) at the New Gymnasium Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere.
The event hosted about 10 000 youths as well as celebrated Guests such as Prof. Dora Akunyili, Dr. Lamido Sanusi currently Group MD of First Bank and soon to be CBN Governor, Mrs. Ibukun Awosika, MD, Sokoa Chair Centre, Mr. Ben Bruce, Chairman, Silverbird Group and Mr Bola Akingbade, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN. This event in the past 2 years has been celebrated as the grand daddy of youth gatherings for its excellent planning and parade of worthy role models who come to share ideas and inspiration with aspiring young people especially because of the loads of issues that bedevil the average Nigerian youth.
With the theme for 2009 ‘OUR TIME IS NOW’ the event attracted all the major players from major quarters, the organisers gathered all hands on deck to make the event an outstanding and rewarding experience for all participants and sponsors, and it was indeed a massive and very successful one. Funke Akindele a.k.a Jennifer and OC Ukeje of the AMBO fame were the compeers of the one day event tagged DARE TO BE DIFFERENT. Other major brands that have thrown their weight behind RISE to ensure the success of the Event include Nescafe, Macleans, Nigerian Bottling Company, Verve and First Bank.

Call for creative entries, ANA Anthology and other events

ANTHOLOGIES OF POEMS, SHORT STORIES AND TEEN AUTHORS, ANA COVENTION 2009: CALL FOR ENTRIES

The Association of Nigerian Authors, Niger State Branch (the host of the 2009 ANA Convention) has concluded plans to publish two anthologies of poems (Adults and Teen Authors) and a collection of short stories for adults. Contributions are hereby solicited from interested members of ANA and the general public. All contributions must be typed on A4 paper (double spaced), properly edited and initialed with a brief biodata of the writer. Stories must not be more than 3,500 words and two poems of not more than two pages per writer. Forward your contributions to the Chairman, Technical Committee, ANA Niger Secretariat, Abubakar Imam Library Complex, PMB 2842, Minna, Niger State not later than 30th June 2009. Also, you can send your contributions to the email (bmdzukogi@yahoo.com). Contributions should be on the themes and subjects of choice to the individual writer. they must be properly marked - ENTRY FOR THE 2009 ANA CONVENTION


For the Teen Authors, only twenty contributors are allowed from each branch of ANA featuring one poem each. We advice that state branches should conduct entry or qualification sessions where prospective contributors are engaged in on-the-spot poetry writing for the selection of the best twenty by the branch, which should be sent on or before the expiration of the deadline.

EXHIBITION: NNENNA OKORE “OF EARTH”

Nnenna Okore, the talented and internationally acclaimed sculptor and installation artist, returns to Nigeria to hold her first major art exhibition beginning June 20th, 4pm, at the Goethe Institut in Lagos. After a successful series of exhibitions at galleries in the US and the UK, the Assistant Professor of Art at North Park University, Chicago will bring her vibrant and constructive approach to sculptural and installation art to a keen Nigerian art audience. The exhibition will be opened by her former professor and mentor at the University of Nsukka and famed art sculptor in his own right El Anatsui.
