Memorable Moments Captured At The Fela! On Broadway Show

It came, we saw, we enjoyed, it went the memories lingers. The huge musical show Fela! On Broadway which happened few weeks back turned out successful considering comments gathered before the event, to me it was quite big.
There have been comments and features on the topic; which I believe raised lots of arguments and other topics.

Therefore I am not going into the details of what brought about Fela! On Broadway.
Like I mentioned earlier, the show was beautiful, well attended and revealing too. So, the major points:

- The show was in memory of the legendary legend FELA.
- Occurred at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos
- PR was handled by Bobby Taylor Consulting
- Show started on the 20th and ended 25th of April
- There were two shows per day.
- Live performance was smooth.
- Security was effective

FELA in The Life House All Week and Weekend Long!

For the rest of this week the entire Life House family and friends celebrate the legend, Fela Kuti and the historic arrival of the acclaimed Broadway show FELA! in Lagos.

The Life House shall host a mini-festival which will feature an art exhibition, film screenings, book readings, open-mic session, poetry and a couple of live musical performances.

Wednesday 20th April - LISTENING SOIREE
In the ambience of The Life House patio and lounge, enjoy “Unknown Fela” for one night only. We’ll be playing unreleased and less known songs from Fela’s oeuvre. Groove.Chill.Ponder. From 7pm

Thursday 21st April - FILM SCREENING
Film club Reel Life will screen 2 great films about Afrobeat as part of the mini-festival – “Music is the Weapon" and
"Ginger Baker in Africa". Don’t miss this. Film starts at 7.30pm.

Friday 22nd April - READINGS, POETRY ,OPEN-MIC SESSION, HAPPY HOUR
The Fire Dance Readings by Sola Olorunyomi .
Starts at 5pm sharp
Sola Olorunyomi is the distinguished author of “Afrobeat! Fela and the Imagined Continent”.
This will be followed by an open-mic session of poetry, spoken word and acoustic music. Guests are encouraged to share their talents and inspirations to an afrobeat twist.
Open mic session starts at 7pm as does the cafe’s Happy Hour so come one come all!

Saturday 23rd April - WURA SAMBA LIVE CONCERT
Tribute Afrobeat Jam Session featuring the wondrously mesmerizing percussionist Wura Samba with his band.
Experience this special concert and the art of percussive afrobeats as interpreted by Wura Samba. We look forward to sharing this wonderful artist with you. Gate:N1000

Sunday 24th April - LIVE REHEARSAL AND KARAOKE
We will reenact an afrobeat session Rehearsal with The Life House house band and in true TOCATINA spontaneous
style incorporate the audience culminating in a Karaoke Sing Along session. This will end our festival tribute to Fela
and this is for everybody and absolutely free. If you love to sing, mime or just have fun then look no further.

Kate Perry Marries Russell Brand!

Yay! Finally they're married...although i'm not very happy about it (simply because i like Russell, well, bite me..lol) But congrats to Kate..happy married life girl!
The pop star and British envelope-pusher Russell Brand swapped vows Saturday in a rather grand ceremony. The nuptials were held at Ranthambore Sanctuary, India, near the spot where the quirky couple got engaged on New Year's Eve

Ludareh Excite Fans with double performances Monthly

 Thursday last week witnessed Ludareh monthly gig extension at CMD garden, Magodo. Although Ludareh was new to patrons of the garden and other guests in attendance, they could not but listen and dance to his melody with sign of delight written on their faces. According to the band spokesperson , “our presence at CMD garden is in fulfilment of our promises to our loyal fans, build more fan base, and most importantly to draw more admiration to juju music genre as we have done  in the last 10 months at Martino’s open view bar, Alausa”. The band also continued with the usual gig at Martino’s open view bar on Friday which also witnessed commendable performance from the band

1ST CORA HIP HOP CONFERENCE

In keeping with its role as cultural landscapist, the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) is billed to convene its first Hip Hop conference as a direct intervention in the blossoming of a popular youth culture and its attendant music and sound.

Set to hold on Sunday the 26th of July 2009 from 2pm till 6pm at the main Exhibition Hall, National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, this first Hip Hop Conference is planned to provide a platform for leading proponents of hip hop music and hip hop culture and other enthusiasts to critically evaluate the musical output / cultural production from amongst their cadre in the past decade, in peer review sessions moderated by CORA.











This conference is intended to provide material for scholars and journalists working in the field of youth culture and to aggregate a cross section of perspectives on the successes and failures of a fast growing industry from the leading proponents of the music genre in question. The event will be covered extensively by the press in print and electronic media.
